I've taken a day off today to look after Shelley whose a bit poorly. Whilst tidying up D's room I got a bit sidetracked.
There was a documentary on BBC 4 last night remembering the miners strike 25 years on. I remember it well as I was 11 and probably just starting to pay attention to the news, I remember it looking like some kind of war. A generation of kids watching armies of police wading into ordinary people fighting for their jobs is probably one of the most least mentioned effects of the miners strike.
Watching the interviews last night a copper from GMP told the camera with a straight face that he believed a reasonable amount of force had been used on a miner in front of him who they believed had hit him with a brick and burst his lip. The ex-miner was interviewed at the same time, they hit him over the head with a fire extinguisher, twice. He's never worked since and he still has epileptic fits over twenty years later. Fuck me if thats a reasonable amount of force what would happen if they went a bit OTT.
